Aberdeen City Council (ACC) has announced that a planned renovation of the city's Maritime Museum will go ahead after Oil and Gas UK raised the minimum £360,000 required for the work.
The attraction's energy exploration galleries will be transformed as part of the scheme, which will be managed by the local authority and is designed to offer visitors a "one-stop shop" overview of the oil and gas industry.
Oil and Gas UK's board and council have approved the redevelopment of the museum, which will see the education suite refurbished and the renovation of the central "link" building containing the three galleries.
ACC convenor of education, culture and sport Andy May said: "The opportunity to equip Aberdeen with a museum reflecting the industry's cutting edge technology and expertise must be grasped now, as must the chance to showcase the city as a European, if not global, energy hub."
Oil and Gas UK chief executive Malcolm Webb added: "Aberdeen will now have a museum that properly reflects the fascinating technology and working practices of our oil and gas industry."
Although the initial funding target has been met, Aberdeen Maritime Museum is still inviting companies to get involved as part of efforts to raise £400,000 to introduce more technology and interactive displays.
