Illuminated River, described as the world’s longest public artwork, will be lit in commemoration of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II.

Incorporating nine bridges across the river Thames in London, UK, Illuminated River’s main colour scheme will be threaded with tones of purple and silver in tribute to The Queen, creating a synchronised flow of subtly moving LED lights across the nine bridges, from Lambeth to London Bridge.

The evolving light will be displayed as part of Reflections, a one-night-only event organised by Totally Thames on Saturday 24 September 2022.

With permission from bridge owners, the specially programmed display – created by Illuminated River artist, Leo Villareal – will accompany an illuminated flotilla along the River Thames, organised by Thames Festival Trust and Thames Alive.

The procession will feature 150 boats, joined by the Queen’s Row Barge ‘Gloriana’ in the middle, travelling at dusk from Chelsea to Tower Bridge to create a "meditative ribbon of light", reflected across the water.

The display will be unveiled at sunset on Saturday 24 September and will run until 2am on Sunday 25 September.

Illuminated River is a long-term artwork that is free and accessible to all.

It was created to reconnect people with the Thames and its environs, drawing inspiration from the spirit of the river and the shared heritage of its bridges.

The continually evolving art installation was unveiled in 2021, with Lambeth, Westminster, Golden Jubilee, Waterloo and Blackfriars Road Bridges joining Millennium, Southwark, Cannon Street and London Bridges, which were illuminated in July 2019.

At 3.2 miles in length, Illuminated River is the longest public art commission in the world.
