The new play area offers children a large play boat and play beach and an undulating timber walkway as well as swings and roundabouts, complemented by new plants to stimulate the senses and attract wildlife, a wooden sculpture, improved footpaths, timber railings and a seating area with picnic tables.

New information and welcome signs will be installed later in the year.

Cheshire West and Chester Council's proposals for the park were compiled in consultation with local school children and park users, with the project being part-funded by the Big Lottery Fund's Children's Play programme.

Janet O'Sullivan, a teacher at Dee Banks School, said: "Not only is the new play ground a great asset to the area, it has been a source of good community involvement for the pupils. The carers say this will be a resource our children will enjoy using on a regular basis."

Cllr Richard Short, culture and recreation portfolio holder, added: "These are wonderful improvements, which will make this park even more popular."

An Aqua Park was opened at the park in 2005, during phase one of the scheme.
