River Kennet towpath set for upgrade

Reading Borough Council (RBC) has announced that work is due to start on a project to upgrade a 900m (2,953ft) section of towpath alongside the River Kennet.

Improvements will be carried out by the council's parks and open spaces team along a stretch of path between south of where Berkeley Avenue crosses the river to just beyond some industrial units.

The work is designed to repair and restore the towpath after a number of years of being worn down and the effects of winter flooding, with a 1.5m (4.9ft)-wide tarmac surface set to be installed.

RBC lead councillor for culture and sport Graeme Hoskin said: "These works will make it even easier for Reading residents to enjoy this stretch of river."
