Green light for Pontcysyllte centre plans

Wrexham Council has approved proposals for the extension of an interpretation centre at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site in Trevor, North Wales.

The scheme, which is expected to cost around £125,000, is designed to improve the visitor experience through improvements to amenities and the Trevor Basin environment.

In addition to the extended interpretation centre, the project includes the provision of toilet facilities within the existing building; new picnic tables and seating areas; and more trees.

A report to the council's head of community wellbeing and development said the scheme's primary aim is to "educate the visitor" as part of a "wider network" of tourism facilities.

"This, in conjunction with the other improvements, will enhance the visitor experience and increase visitor numbers generally to the area", the report said.
